Lucille was rescued from the auction in Texas and became Ron’s focal point on that trip. She was incredibly sad, with horrible feet, a cough, and nasal discharge. She was so sick, and so scared that she was stunned into stillness. She just stood still with her face against the gate. Ron had to help her. She got immediate medical attention at Oscar’s Place. Her temperature kept spiking, and she was sick for quite a while, but we got her feet comfortable and started to get her fever down and cough to lessen. Over her first couple of weeks at Oscar’s Place, Lucille settled into her routine and began to trust us. We saw the biggest change in Lucille’s quality of life and happiness when we started to let volunteers into the quarantine pasture. Our volunteers taught Lucille that ALL humans were going to love her from now on. Now, when Ron goes to check on her, she often has her head resting on volunteers’ shoulders. She goes up to them to engage and to be loved by them.  At Oscar’s Place, we are committed to both physical AND emotional rehabilitation. Lucille needs a lot of both. This sweet girl has a GREAT life ahead of her.
