He lives at Lindsay Wildlife Experience where he has a huge birthday party every year.  His special story is printed on the back of the card so you can learn a bit more about him and his amazing personality.

10% of this sale will be donated to Lindsay Wildlife Experience for the care of Lord Richard and his many friends. By purchasing my products you are not only supporting me to do more of this work helping animals, you are also supporting the Wildlife Center and all of the animals that they help!

******

Lord Richard hatched in 1974 at the Randall Museum in San Francisco and was transferred to Lindsay Wildlife Experience later that year. After being raised by people, he became imprinted and would not be able to socialize correctly with wild vultures. Instead, he has a very important job as an ambassador for his species– as the oldest Turkey Vulture in California!

For years, Lindsay lore had it that Richard laid an egg, thus for years it was believed that Lord Richard was, in fact, a female. But Lindsay Wildlife Experience is always trying to update and advance the care of its animal ambassadors and in 2018, a now inexpensive test was done to determine the sex of our birds. The results came with some surprises including that Lord Richard is, in fact, a male!

In the wild, Turkey Vultures have been known to live up to 16 years. Lindsay Wildlife’s resident Turkey Vulture has far exceeded that— Lord Richard turns 50 years old in Summer 2024! This card was made for his Birthday party and he has roses around his neck because there’s a song that a band called The Corner Laughers wrote for him called “Roses Around Lord Richard.” They perform his special song at his birthday party every year. What a lucky guy!
